Rejoice, be joyful! It has been snowing!

The “Tragophile Grove” dormant under snow

You Tragophiles already know how much we were looking forward to the snow from our reports last year. You also heard of our disappointment in February last year when the storm “Medea” passed by Corinth.

This year, however, it looks completely different! The storm “Elpis” [Hope] passed with full force over Corinth and covered the groves with snow! 11 proud centimeters have snowed; this is not little for one of the driest regions of the Greek mainland! And it has also become really cold with temperatures up to -10 °C, which have even held for several days.

We explain how important cold and snow are for the olive tree in our report from January 2021. Please allow us to refer you to it. Thus, we also think that the mild winter of last year was largely responsible for the (quantitative) poor harvest here in Corinth, but also in many other regions of Greece. Such pictures give us hope all the more!

And since we are already talking about the 2021 harvest, we would like to show you a video of the “Tragophiles’ Grove”, the grove where the Tragophiles harvested last October, covered in snow.

We also think that a small addendum to our report from March 17, 2021 is necessary here.

Part of it was also about how the olive tree aligns its leaves according to the circumstances and its needs.

Just look at how wonderfully the silver-gray, hard and smooth outer side is facing outward, to shield the soft inner side from the cold!

As soon as the snow has melted and the weather allows it, Elton will resume pruning the trees. Again, if you happen to be around and wish to observe the performance of this important art – and possibly take your first steps at it – get in touch with us!

Stay healthy and stay tuned!
