Contrary to our hopes from mid-May, our trees did not manage to develop fruit. Apparently the trees were unable to hold the late-developed flowers due to the high daytime temperatures or the large temperature differences between day and night. There is no olive-fruit anywhere to be seen.
The scale of this catastrophe is unique. Because it not only affects us, but also the entire Eastern Peloponnese and other regions throughout the country. Nobody can remember such a bad year. We very much regret that our harvest days will not be able to take place this year.
Given the situation in our country, but also in Spain and Italy, we would just like to repeat our advice (report from May 5, 2023) to you to stock up on olive oil as quickly as possible. Olive oil stays fresh and tasty for a long time if stored correctly. We still have olive oil from the 2022 harvest.
Otherwise, the groves are doing well. The storm “Daniel”, which plunged the entire area of Thessaly into disaster, also passed by Corinth and provided the earth with plenty of water. The trees now look fresh and magnificent. But that is small consolation considering their fruitlessness. There should finally be a real winter again!
